S3 Youth Philanthropy Initiative
Calderglen High’s S3 Youth Philanthropy Initiative aims to support secondary-age learners in developing a real sense of purpose through youth-led giving. Students will identify local needs, explore causes that matter to their community, and plan practical actions that make a measurable difference. This programme is designed to build confidence, responsibility, and empathy—qualities that strengthen both school life and future pathways.
Alongside learning about philanthropy, students will experience interdisciplinary learning by connecting subjects to shared goals. Activities may draw on areas such as research and communication, numeracy for budgeting and impact planning, and creative skills for awareness campaigns. By working across disciplines, learners gain a broader understanding of how communities function and how thoughtful decisions can lead to positive outcomes.
Just as importantly, the initiative develops meta-skills that prepare young people for further study and work. Students will practise teamwork, problem-solving, planning, and reflective thinking, while learning how to communicate ideas clearly and respond constructively to feedback. Parents can play a key role by encouraging students to stay curious, contribute ideas, and view their efforts as part of a collaborative journey toward community impact.
