Calderglen's Big Conversation
What is Calderglen's Big Conversation?
Calderglen’s Big Conversation is our opportunity to listen to the voices of our whole school community and use what we hear to make Calderglen an even better place to learn and work. Following our successful survey in June 2025, we have continued to make positive changes based on feedback, including our new mobile phone policy, updated Anti-Bullying Policy, increased Mental Health First Aid support, improved school councillor availability, our Silver Rights Respecting School Award and stronger opportunities for pupil voice across faculties.
This year, we want to hear from young people, parents and carers and staff about what matters most. Our Big Conversation will explore key areas including Wellbeing, Children’s Rights, Safeguarding, Bullying and Equalities.
The whole-school survey is just the beginning. We will use your feedback to identify key priorities and then explore these in more detail through focus groups and further conversations.
Your voice matters. Your views can help shape the future of Calderglen.
Calderglen’s Big Conversation 2025
Calderglen’s Big Conversation 2025 gave our school community a valuable opportunity to share their views, with 919 responses from pupils, parents and staff, followed by a series of focus groups to explore the feedback in greater depth.
Most importantly, we listened — and we acted. The feedback has helped shape a number of positive changes across Calderglen:
- Anti-Bullying Policy – refreshed with young people helping to shape our updated approach.
- Mobile Phone Policy – a new policy introduced in response to feedback.
- Rights Respecting School – achieved our Silver Award and are now working towards Gold.
- Wellbeing Support – increased availability of school councillors and strengthened partnership working.
- Pupil Voice – every faculty now actively seeks pupil opinions and uses feedback to inform learning and improvement. Our “You Said, We Did” displays make these changes visible around the school.
- Communication – improved communication with parents, carers and staff through The Notebook.
- Mental Health First Aid – increased training for both staff and pupils to strengthen our whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Calderglen’s Big Conversation showed that when our community speaks, we listen — and when we listen, we can make meaningful change.
