Foghlam tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig (FtMG) aig Àrd-sgoil Ghlinn Challdair
Tha Àrd-sgoil Ghlinn Challdair ann an Cille Bhrìghde an Ear a’ tabhainn foghlam àrd-sgoile d’ sgoilearan a tha fileanta ann a’ Gàidhlig, ann a’ Siorrachd Lannraig a Deas. (Tha Foghlam aig ìre nan Tràth Bhliadhnaichean agus a’ Bhun-sgoil gan toirt seachad le Bun-sgoil Bheinn Chamshroin agus an Sgoil-àraich
http://www.mountcameron-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk/).
An-dràsta, san Àrd-sgoil tha iar-cheannard na Gàidhlig is tidsear Gàidhlig sa Roinn FtMG. Cuideachd tha tidsear Nuadh-Chànain sa sgoil air soirbheachadh ann an Teisteanas Gaelic (Luchd-ionnsachaidh) Nàiseanta 5 fhaighinn am bliadhna, ‘s i air ìre A a choileanadh.
Tha sgoilearan a bhios a’ dèanamh Gàidhlig aig Àrd-sgoil Ghlinn Challdair, fileanta sa chànan, ‘s iad air a dhol tro Foghlam tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig bho aois 3, no na bu tràithe. Mar sin, tha cothrom aig luchd-ionnsachaidh na Gàidhlig, Teisteanasan Nàiseanta a shuidhe aig gach ìre fhad ‘s a tha iad ann a’ sheo. Thathar an dòchas gum bi feadhainn a bhios ag ionnsachadh Gaelic, cuideachd comasach Teisteanasan Nàiseanta fhaighinn anns an àm ri thighinn.
Gach madainn, tha a h-uile sgoilear S1-S6 a’ dèanamh clàradh còmhla. Bidh seo a’ toirt dhaibh cothrom a bhith a’ cleachdadh cànan sòisealta, ao-coltach ris an dòigh ‘s a bhios iad ag eadar-obrachadh le chèile taobh a-staigh nan clasaichean àbhaisteach air feadh an latha. Tha buaidh làidir aig a seo air an cuid fileantachd.
An-dràsta tha sinn a’ tabhainn na cuspairean a leanas tron Ghàidhlig: Eachdraidh, Eòlas Creideimh agus Moraltachd agus Eòlas Pearsanta is Sòisealta, do sgoilearan ann am foghlam farsaing coitcheann.
Thathar an dòchas seo a leudachadh gus làn thairgse is raon farsaing d’ chuspairean FtMG a lìbhrigeadh san àm ri thighinn.
GME at Calderglen High School
Calderglen High School offers secondary provision for GME pupils in South Lanarkshire. Early years and primary GME provision in South Lanarkshire is offered by Mount Cameron Primary and Nursery. (http://www.mountcameron-pri.s-lanark.sch.uk/).
Across our 3-18 GME provision, we work closely together to ensure that pupils experience continuity and progression, while also recognising that they are part of a unique Gaelic school community.
The Gaelic Depute for GME across South Lanarkshire Local Authority is based at Calderglen High School and has a teaching commitment which supports the work of our full-time Gaelic teacher. A number of Calderglen staff are learning Gaelic using Duolingo and one of our Modern Languages teachers gained an A pass in National 5 Gaelic Learners, through online learning via eSgoil.
Pupils studying Gàidhlig at Calderglen are fluent speakers of the language, having gone through Gaelic immersion in their GME primary school journey. GME is distinct from Gaelic education, which is for learners of the language and is similar to a Modern Languages course. GME pupils are able to sit National Qualifications at all levels in Calderglen and we continue to look for ways in which we can develop our offer to include Gaelic Learners.
Every morning, all GME pupils S1-S6, register together at Tutor Time. This establishes our Gaelic ethos and is an important opportunity for social communication between pupils and staff (distinct from the traditional language of the class). This has a notable impact on pupil fluency.
We currently offer the following subjects via GME: History, RMPS and PSE, to pupils in the BGE. We continue to work towards expanding our GME subject offering.
S1-3
Ann an Curraicealam airson Sàr-mhathais, tha an aon inbhe agus cuideam aig Gàidhlig agus Litreachas 's a tha aig Beurla agus Litreachas. Bidh sgoilearan ann an S1-3 a' sgrùdadh raon d’ chuspairean a bheireas air adhart an tuigse a th’ aca air cultar is cànan na Gàidhlig agus ann an Leughadh, Sgrìobhadh, Èisteachd agus Labhairt.
Theid raon d’ dhòighean-obrach a chleachdadh airson sgilean na sgoilearan a thoirt air adhart a thaobh a bhith smaoineachadh ann an dòighean breithneachail agus cruthachail agus airson na sgilean pearsanta, eadar-phearsanta agus co-obrachaidh a leasachadh, a tha cho cudromach sa bheatha làitheil agus ann an saoghal na h-obrach.
In Curriculum for Excellence, Gàidhlig and Literacy has the same status and importance as English and Literacy. GME pupils in S1-3 will study a range of topics which will deepen their understanding of Gaelic language and culture while also developing their skills in Reading, Writing, Listening and Talking.
A range of approaches will be used to develop pupils’ critical and creative thinking as well as their inter-personal and team-working skills which are so important in life and in the world of work.

S3 Learners
In S3, we offer a Gaelic Learners Masterclass which lasts across two terms. This gives pupils an introduction to basic Gaelic language such as greetings, placenames and adjectives while also developing their understanding of Gaelic culture.
Senior Phase
Bidh sgoilearan aig ceann shuas na sgoile a’ rannsachadh raon farsaing de dhiofar theacsaichean ann am meadhanan eadar-dhealaichte. A’ togail air na ceithir comasan, leigidh an cùrsa leis na tagraichean conaltradh, a bhith nan luchd-smaoineachaidh breithneachail, agus mothachadh cultarail a leasachadh a bharrachd air a bhith cruthachail. Bidh na tagraichean cuideachd a’ leasachadh eòlas air dualchas litreachais is cànanach na h-Alba.
Pupils in the senior phase will study a wide range of different types of texts in different media. Building on the four capacities, the course enables candidates to communicate, be critical thinkers, develop cultural awareness and be creative. Pupils also develop an appreciation of Scotland’s literary and linguistic heritage.

Extra-Curricular
Supported by our colleagues in Performing Arts, we have now added chanter to our school music lesson provision. In 2025-26, this enabled 30 pupils (secondary S1/2 and upper primary Mount Cameron pupils) to take chanter lessons for the first time. The lessons proved overwhelmingly popular, with a waiting list to join and community feedback suggesting massive support for this traditional music opportunity.
Our GME pupils take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities which enhance their interpersonal and language skills. From participating in the national FilmG competition and attending hands-on media masterclasses, to engaging with creative professionals in tailored Gaelic industry workshops, our students gain valuable real-world experience. Paired with regular school trips that celebrate Gaelic culture and heritage, these opportunities ensure our young people develop confidence, creativity, and a strong sense of community while using their Gaelic in vibrant, practical contexts.
